That night we ate at the hotel and ran into our one unpleasant experience with the French. As you might expect, this restaurant was full of out of country people. One business man took a cell phone call at his table. A native French man got extemely upset at this and made an incredable scene. Even though the French man was in his 60's vs the business man who was in his 40's, the French man almost went to blows over this.
To make our waiter feel better and get some sense of humor about the situation we brought up an old American cartoon, "For Better Or For Worse" where one of the main characters was also upset about cell phone usage, and he stuck a swizzle stick into a dinner roll, spoke into it for minute, then handed it to the cell phone user and said it was for him:
David enjoyed himself, and the waiter was amused. The rolls were good as well.....
