spent ashore on Sata Cruz Island.\u00a0 Yep, that\u2019s the same island we stopped on one the first day, but this time we are on the south side where there is civilization, and I have to say that the organization that Lindblad did was really great.<\/p><p>Buses collected us at the port after a zodiac ride to shore and transported us to Darwin\u2019s Lounge Caf\u00e9 which would serve as our meeting spot after the first activity.\u00a0 Their <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/darwinslounge\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">insta page<\/a><\/span> suggests it could be quite a cocktail spot, but since it was first thing in the morning, oh well.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a9574a2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a9574a2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We did a short walk on the road from the caf\u00e9 to the Charles Darwin Foundation.\u00a0 The foundation does a lot of conservation work in the Galapagos, but the focus of our visit was their work on giant tortoise conservation. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darwinfoundation.org\/en\/our-work\/land\/giant-tortoise-conservation\/\">https:\/\/www.darwinfoundation.org\/en\/our-work\/land\/giant-tortoise-conservation\/<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0We saw the taxidermied body of Lonesome George, the last of the Pinta Island tortoises who died at the age of 100 after becoming something of a cause celeb.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galapagos.org\/about_galapagos\/lonesome-george\/\">https:\/\/www.galapagos.org\/about_galapagos\/lonesome-george\/<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 He was originally is an American museum, but was later returned.\u00a0 Kind of like Ecuador\u2019s version of the Elgin marbles. \u00a0<\/p><p>Because baby tortoises are very susceptible to predator attacks right after hatching so one of the activities is the collection of tortoise eggs from various islands.\u00a0 The eggs are hatched at the center and raised to an age (generally several year) at which they are mostly safe from predators before being returned to the island where they were collected.\u00a0 \u00a0The tortoises are labeled with numbers in different colors and kept in separate groups.\u00a0<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_3174\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3174\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The walk back gave us the opportunity for a little shopping and then the caf\u00e9 was serving complementary ginger lemonade which was really good.\u00a0 And refreshingly cold after the walk in the heat.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>For the next activity, we had three options: a visit to a local school, a visit to a sugar plantation\/rum distillery and a visit to a low tech hydroponic farm\/coffee plantation.\u00a0 We did the hydroponic farm &#8220;Granja Integral Ochoa,&#8221; where the owner grows lettuce and other \u00a0salad greens which are sold to the cruise ships.\u00a0 He also \u00a0has fruit trees, like those for the yummy bananas he gave us, plus the coffee plants.\u00a0 The coffee is all hand-picked and processed.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0We all got to sample it (except Don and other non-coffee-drinking barbarians who had an interesting purple tea) along with some snacks and local fruit jam.\u00a0 It was excellent.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-91c943f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"91c943f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Our next stop was Rancho Manzanilla \u00a0where we had a buffet lunch.\u00a0 After the food on the ship, this was barely adequate, so dietetic.\u00a0\u00a0 The service was meh. \u00a0But after lunch, we walked outside. \u00a0Somehow we missed out on \u201cBoobie Beer.\u201d \u00a0The property is on a migration path for giant tortoises, so walking among them was pretty cool.<\/p><p><!-- default-view.php -->\n<div\n\tclass=\"ngg-galleryoverview
