First blog by Don on his DSLR Astrophotography
I have started a new hobby to deprive him and Marina of sleep. With Marina’s invaluable help, WordPress blogs have been added to snowedunder.
Up until I started the new hobby, most of my photography has been, landscapes, flowers, gargoyles and stained glass when traveling in Europe.
I started in astrophotography using my existing equipment that I have accumulated over the years. From a landscape photography class with John Fielder, I acquired a tripod that perhaps is too light for astrophotography, but I am learning not to bump it 🙂 One of the lenses that I bought for daylight photography, I did not use much, a 70-200mm telephoto. Wide angle lenses are better for what I like to shoot in the daytime. I first used this lens on the tripod, and took very many 2 to 5 second exposures and then stacked them and post processed them in Affinity. I then added the Star Adventurer 2i equitorial mount, and finally a Williams Optics 250mm fixed focal length lens.
What I am doing, is starting very slowly, and for astrophotography, very low cost, and slowly upgrading. I am not going to spend many thousands of dollars and later decide I do not like it. So far all of my images have been in the evening. I have not yet gotten up in the morning.
He already had a good camera, tripod, and a few lenses
