Galápagos Islands 2024

January/February 2024 found us taking a trip to Florida to visit Pete and Nancy and then on to the Galápagos Islands with Lindblad Expeditions aboard the National Geographic Endeavor II.  It was an amazing trip, though daily blog posts did not happen since I was too cheap to pay for decent internet.  Thus, the blog posts are slightly after the fact retrospective that I have started writing in the hotel back in Guayaquil, Ecuador and continued at home after our return.  You can see them here.

The map below provides an overview of the journey. This is a photograph of a map on the ship, though I expect a better map will follow once Don gets going on the computer back home.  We started on Isla Baltra (sometimes called Seymour Island, or South Seymour depending on which map you believe) which is the little brown island under the “2a.”  2a is on North Seymour Island which is even smaller than Baltra/Seymour Island where Baltra airport is located.   Islands apparently have two names, one Spanish, one English because of different colonial powers at different times, as well as mapmaker variations.
