Finland – Day 11 continued

On arrival in Helsinki, we were collected  from the ferry by a private van tour which took us to our hotel to drop off luggage.   We stayed at Hotel Haven which was a good choice.  Nice bed, good breakfasts, and right next to the harbor for walking around opportunities.

The van tour drove us around to various sights, and the guide gave us information about Finland, Finnish history and Finnish attitudes.  We also went out of town to a “medieval” village called Porvoo.  Not actually very medieval anymore, but it was a nice drive and there is a chocolate factory there.  We got our first exposure at the chocolate factory to an apparent love of licorice.

One of the stops on the tour was the Sibelius Monument.  It looks rather like organ pipes in design which is weird since Sibelius did not compose for organ.  A popular variation is to take photographs looking up the pipes, which we did.
